The People's Emergency Briefing

Screenings, events and actions in York

What’s happening with climate and nature? What does it mean for us in York? And how can we respond together?

The People’s Emergency Briefing is a valuable new tool to help us with these questions. It brings communities together around a simple but radical idea: that ordinary citizens, properly informed, are the people to lead the response to the emergency we are in.

On 27 November 2025 a ‘National Emergency Briefing’ on Climate and Nature was held in London: an invited audience of over 1,000 politicians and leaders from business, culture and the media heard from ten experts, who set out implications of climate and nature breakdown for health, food systems, national security and the economy. Launched in April 2026, The People’s Emergency Briefing is a 50-minute film that includes scientific content from this Westminster event with reactions from members of the public and some more familiar faces. It delivers the facts about the threats, but also the enormous benefits of genuine emergency action.

YorkCliConnect collaborated with other local groups to bring a flagship People’s Emergency Briefing event. to central York on the 9th May 2026, which was attended by over 200 people (read more about the event here). We are also be coordinating and supporting individuals and organisations to host screenings and facilitate discussions and action across their communities – via workplaces, educational institutes, action groups, faith groups, sports teams and more. Using this film, we can connect and engage people across our city, inviting everyone not just to hear the evidence, but also to discuss how we respond here, now, together

Details of screenings in the City of York and surrounding area will be shared via this page, which will be updated regularly as more events are planned and  confirmed
