The People's Emergency Briefing

Screenings, events and actions in York

What’s happening with climate and nature? What does it mean for us in York? And how can we respond together?

The People’s Emergency Briefing is a valuable new tool to help us with these questions. It brings communities together around a simple but radical idea: that ordinary citizens, properly informed, are the people to lead the response to the emergency we’re in.

On 27 November 2025 a ‘National Emergency Briefing’ on Climate and Nature was held in London: an invited audience of over 1,000 politicians and leaders from business, culture and the media heard from ten experts, who set out implications of climate and nature breakdown for health, food systems, national security and the economy. Launched in April 2026, The People’s Emergency Briefing is a 50-minute film that includes scientific content from this Westminster event with reactions from members of the public and some more familiar faces. It delivers the facts about the threats, but also the enormous benefits of genuine emergency action.

YorkCliConnect is collaborating with other local groups to organise a flagship People’s Emergency Briefing event in a central York. We will also be coordinating and supporting individuals and organisations to host screenings and facilitate discussions and action across their communities – via workplaces, educational institutes, action groups, faith groups, sports teams and more. Using this film, we can connect and engage people across our city, inviting everyone not just to hear the evidence, but also to discuss how we respond here, now, together

Details of screenings in the City of York and surrounding area will be shared via this page, which will be updated regularly as more events are planned and  confirmed

🗓️ Saturday 9th May, 2:30-4:30pm

📍 Tempest Anderson Hall, Frederic Street (near Museum Gardens)

After the film there will be a short panel discussion featuring local faces who have put their knowledge of the emergency into action. There will also be the opportunity for a more open discussion about what this all means for us here in York and how we can respond together.

We particularly encourage leaders across local politics, business, culture and community in particular to join this flagship screening in York City Centre. This event is also an opportunity for anyone wishing to host the People’s Emergency Briefing in their workplaces and communities to watch film and connect with others who are facilitating similar events and discussions.
